Uta Kawagichi

Appearance: Uta is a young woman with a slender frame, fair complexion, gray eyes, and chin-length brown hair.

She wears a long-sleeved blue uniform shirt with a red symbol in the center of her torso. Underneath her uniform shirt is a white, long-sleeved shirt. She wears a long brown skirt with brown leather boots. She also wears a boater hat. She wears white latex gloves wherever she goes.

She always carries at least one small antibacterial bottle with her to clean things around her or to spray dirty people.

Background: Uta was born in a middle-class religious family in northern Tokyo. She was the second-born child of the family, baptized, and she had 6 other siblings. Her mother and father were strict on Catholicism, so strict that not following its tenets would mean punishment, to which Uta would adhere fearfully to the letter. Despite this, only four of her siblings often broke the family rules, and they even got away with it in front of their parents because her parents were too tired from working all the time. Eventually, as time went on in her childhood, their parents became complacent and didn't enforce their punishment if they broke the rules, but they still were stern about praying to God.

One day, when Uta was 12 years old, everyone in her family, along with the town she grew up in, fell sick with the H1N1 flu variant. Her parents believed that it was the act of God that brought about this dreadful omen, but after seeing that Uta was unaffected, they were grateful to have her in her care as she tended to her family. It was also Uta herself who recognized the exact flu variant that her family had caught, and thus, the whole town was treated quickly with antibiotics. She was a local hero to her neighbors, and Uta reveled in the praise, which kick-started her interest in epidemiology. So, for most of her teenage years, she learned a lot about both the human body and the diseases/viruses that affected it.

When she was 16, she began working as an intern at a local biolab in Japan, as the researchers were impressed by her expert knowledge of diseases. She worked her way to the top, becoming the lab's assistant conductor, though her position didn't last long because Uta's eccentricities and strict demeanor annoyed the other researchers, and she was eventually fired for not following proper protocols. Still, Uta wasn't deterred by her termination, so she joined the local World Health Organization branch in Japan and quickly became its spokeswoman. At the same time, she was invited to join Hope's Peak Academy's Ultimate Talent Program, citing her mastery of epidemiology. Uta happily accepted their invitation and became the "Ultimate Epidemiologist," hoping to expand her teachings, sermons, and protocols among her peers.

Uta also manages her own website and blog about various diseases and health advice.

Personality: Uta is a kind, friendly, and religious person, even if she's an overzealous oddball when it comes to her passion. She's an expressive person who won't hesitate to voice her opinion, though, at times, she may do so recklessly, especially when it's about taking care of one's health. While she genuinely means well in her work, others may find her difficult to work with at times, mostly because she often gives unsolicited advice or reprimands others for basic hygiene and health. When she's serious, she often speaks in a clinical tone with a hint of her enthusiasm, as if she expects an illness to break out in her peers at any time. She also has a strange sense of humor, as she would make jokes in jargon about her passion and would laugh in the most unexpected way possible.

Uta's oddball personality often breaks expectations and conventions in a humorous way. For example, she won't hesitate to spray anti-bacterial bottles at others if she gets offended by their "blasphemy." She would even demand that others "quarantine" themselves if they spoke about something she disapproved of. In addition to her religious past, she is seen as strict, though most people wouldn't take her seriously because of her weirdness. This usually offends Uta, and she may be forceful in her approach to get through to someone's head, but she won't hurt someone too much to make her point.

Aside from Uta's weird and quirky personality, she is a charitable and knowledgeable person who wants to rid the world of disease and parasites. While she understands that disease is nature's way of culling the weaker masses, her ultimate goal is to do everything she can to prevent people from dying due to illness. She is also not afraid of death, even when she proceeds with her selfless acts of tending to people's illnesses.
